James graduated with degrees in Law and Commerce (majoring in Accounting) from the University of Canterbury in 1994. James has been with Mortlocks since 1995.

James’ work involves residential, rural and commercial property, including sales and purchases of farms, leases, financing and subdivisions. James also advises on family trust issues, building contracts and the sales and purchases of forestry businesses.

James provides legal services to the local franchise operator of a leading national building company. This, combined with acting for individuals, allows James to understand how both the builder and homeowner see different sides of the same question in building contract matters.

James has a detailed understanding of the subdivision process, having completed the legal work for over 150 subdivisions for Housing New Zealand. His contacts in the survey and engineering fields can be called upon to assist clients as required.

James’ friendly manner allows him to get to know his clients well, so that he can understand their concerns and provide quality succinct advice tailored to their needs.
